weekend’s end
Monday Monday, and guess what’s happening on Wednesday? Gov. Schwarzenegger is scheduled to speak at the Bay Area Council Outlook Conference here in Alameda @ the Hornet April 16. http://www.bayareacouncil.org/events_outlook_conference.php Registration ($500 per seat) starts at 7:30 a.m., program is 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., and the Governor is scheduled to speak at 10:30 a.m.http://www.bayareacouncil.org/outlook2008/Outlook_Run_of_show.pdf Be there — I will (or one of my compatriots). Spent the weekend in the garden (see Backyard Bliss for updates and pix). Ran around Berkeley with teens. Went to Erin’s all-chick 40th birthday party Saturday evening, then home for date night with Husband. Friday night was the home opener for Husband’s softball team, and…

this week
tomorrow’s paper done, front page coverage of fire, taxes, task forces and development. Same as it ever was…;-) more to come next week. The sale at Hank Hooper’s Hootenanny went well, although we sold practically nothing. I say it went well because there were lots of ooohs and aahhhs over the merch but there were so many kids there and we had virtually nothing to buy for kids. That helps to know. Aprons, etc., in smaller sizes to come. This weekend I have “nothing” on the agenda, which means it will be filled with something. Maybe more crafting. More merch. We’re looking ahead at a possible move, as I think…

d-d-deadlines…
I made it. Got the winery story done, got the paper done, and have moved on to product development issues again. I took a detour today to a local spot and got a hold of some funk-y fabrics and trims from Freecycle — these were about third-hand. Really scary 60s retro stuff. *very scary* in fact. I got about a bushel of burlap in very groovy colors, for example. And some wild prints — like a kitchen print with turquiose and brown fish on it. *very scary,* as I say. This is part of our quest to reuse/remake/repurpose items for our BW&R line of products to promote recycling. We’re trying…

monday monday monday
spent the weekend working, I mean WORKING. Idle hands and all that…Got going on some recycled products for our upcoming show at Rhythmix next weekend (see http://www.blacknwhitenredallover.blogspot.com/ to know what the hell I’m talking about). I got to work on an apron pattern and spent considerable time this weekend figuring out how to piece, trim, and streamline production of said apron. These are adorable — cute found or vintage fabrics with vintage trims, in saucy combinations of pink and black, fun fabrics from the past, or retro prints, rescued quilt pieces, etc. Saved from landfill! Very cute, and I will have about a dozen for next week. Come to Hank…

poppies will make them sleep
…sleep…now they’ll sleep… Saw these poppies at Alameda Point and thought how lucky we are to live in California. Yeah, I know, lots of things about it stink, but in terms of gratitude for what we have, right here in our midst, I’m grateful to have decent weather most of the year, open space, a lively arts community, schools close enough to walk or ride bikes to, access to good food and clean water, and as much chocolate as one person can eat, pretty much whenever. Ditto that, fair trade coffee. Ditto that, decent vino. When we were little kids we believed that you couldn’t pick a California poppy —…
